An explmatory experiment was carried out, during the 1970/71 season, to evaluate eventual potassium rertilizer needs for corn in the Aconcagua province, and to have some experimental background for interpreting the exchangeable K content in soils and the leaf concentration of this element. The study was established on 7 corn fields which received nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization. Two plots were established on each site, one receiving K fertilization and the adder without K fertilizer.
Grain yields did not show a response to K. Exchangeable K in the soils varied from 86 to 208 ppm, and leaf ooncentration of K varied from 1.50 to 2.17%.
