A survey was conducted on apple orchards in Curicó in order to evaluate their nutritional status. Spur Ieaves, 130 days after blooming of the cultivars Yellow Newtown, Richard Delicious, Starking Delicious, and Delicious, were sampled and analized for their mineral composition.
The leaves contents of N, Mg, Zn, Mn and Cu were low. Nitrogen and Zinc were deficient in about 34% of the samples and 60 to 70% of the samples were deficient in Mg, Mn and Cu. On the other hand, the levels of K and Ca were high.
In general, there was a relationship between foliar mineral content and production, but this was not always the case, probably beacuse other factore were affecting apple production.
