The purpose of the present research was to study ten corn inbred lines (A 629, A 223, A 257, A 632, EC 25, PA 54, W 374-B, A 90, EC26 y EC 40), by diallel cross analysis according to Griffing's Method 4, Model l. The forty five singles crosses were tested in a 7 X 7 latice square design partially balanced, with 4 replications at La Platina Agricultural Experiment S.tation, Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias. The following variables were measured: total ear weight, cob weight, kernel yield with moisture reduced to 15%, ear lenght, ear diameter, number of raws per ear, kernels per row and kernels per ear.
These variables were analyzed tu determine the effect of general and specifie combining abilities.
The analysis, according to the model used, shawed that all characters were significant at the 0.01 level far both general and specific combining abilities.
It was determined for all studied variables that additive effects were more impartant nan-additive ones.
Results shawed that lines A 1257 y A 632 have the highest general combining ability, followed by lines A 629, EC 40 y PA 54. In.the same arder, these lines reached the highest grain yields with moisture reduced to 15%. Estimates of specifie combining ability variances associated with each parent showed the highest values for lines A 629 and PA 54.
