This experiment was undertaken to study the effect of the supplementation of acidulated soap-stock obtained from grape seed upon performance of growing-finishing pigs. The trial was carried-out at La Platina Experimental Station during autum and winter 1969.
Thirty-two cross-breed pigs of an initial bdy weight of 39 Kg were alloted at radom to 4 treatments with 2 replications. Treatments consisted on 3 level of supplementation of soap-stock in the diet. 2,5%; 5,9%; 7,5% and a control without supplementation.
Diets including acidulated soap-stock produced a better efficiency of food utilization as compared to the control. 3,85%; 3,76, 3,69 and 3,79 Kg of feed per 100 kg gain for diets supplemented with 0; 2,5, 5,0 and 7,5% acidulated soap.stock respectively.
Feed intake and body weight gains were improved as level of soap-stock was increased in the diet up to 5%. Diferences however were not stadisticaIIy significant.
Not effect upon backfat thickness, lenght, loin eye area were observed. Thicker backfat was found in male pigs.
Linoleic acid concentration of backfat was increased as the level of acidulated soapstock was illcreased in the diet.
