It is possible to sow successfull table beet (Beta vulgaris) almost the whole year according to the results of a trial carried out at La Platina Experimental Station, between May 1968 and April 1969, in which 12 planting dates were compared. The plants produced by the January to April dates of planting presented too much bolting, internal discoloration, and low yields. The vegetative periods were shorter in the planting dates corresponding to June, July, August and October, being April the longer one. November and December sowings showed the longest harvesting periods whereas March and April, the shortest ones. A relationship was observed between the length of these periods and the average temperature and sum of temperatures throughout the growing period. Larger beet were produced by the May and June planting dates, and the smaller ones by the March and April planting dates. The highest yield corresponded to the October sowing treatment.
