A research on the influence on the yields of the amount of seed sowed and the distances between rows in bean culture was carried out during the years 1951-52, ;952-53 and 1954-55 at Paine Experimental Station. Three varieties were chosen for trials, according with their habits of growth. They were Tórtola, a dwarf variety; Michelite (Arroz) a medium sized growth, and Coscorrón, a very vigorous variety.
The first variety, Tórtola, was sowed at 0.40, a.50 and 0.60 meters bretween rows, and with an amountof 150, 200, and 250 kgrs. of seed per hectarea.
The variety Michelite wassowed at 0.50, 0.60, and 0.70 meters between rows, and 100, 150, and 200 kgrs. of seed per hectarea was employed.
The third variety, Coscorrón, was sowed at 0.60, 0.70 and 0.80 meters between rows and 75,100, and 125 kgrs: per hectarea was used.
Nine treatments for each variety result from the combination of the preceeding distances between rows and amount of seed used. The treatments were randomized and repeated five time. The length of the plots were five meters, with four rows each. Only the two inner rows were harvested and weighed, for camparison.
No significant differences were observed in any of the treatments. In any event the results are analyzed and the most convenient distances are suggested. Interaction of the two factors involved in this experiment is evident.
More work on this subject will be done, trying mainly to separate each factor from one another.
