ABSTRACT

As no sufficient experimental data could be secured from published literature on the action of systemic insecticides on scale insects attacking agricultural crops, the authors carried on a preliminary test to find out the action of an organo-phosphorous compound as a selective insecticide on the second larval stage of black scale (Saissetia oleae Bérn.), grown on small citrus seedlings under greenhouse conditions. A definite lethal action of the insecticide upon the young scales could be detected, and is was funther determined that better results may be attained when the product is absorbed through the leaves, applying to the plants dosages close to 0.50% of the active ingredient in water.
