To solve the many problems faced by producers of watermelons an peppers, of the Chile and Cayenne types, a breeding program has been carried on with Cucurbitaceae and Capsicum species.
After five years of inbreeding the Chilena N° 1 variety of watermelan has been obtained. The selection has been made upon the basis of several indicated characteristics. The varietal characteristics and the pedigree of the strain are presented.
In Capsicum, a good strain of the variety of Chile pepper Cristal has been obtained in seven years of breeding. The pedigree and varietal characteristics of the strain are presented.
The Nora de Murcia variety of pepper is another Capsicum developed after seven years of breeding. One strain good for industrial paprika has been obtained. The pedigree and varietal characteristics are presented.
