Professor R. Earl Storie Qf the University of California visited Chile in November, 1944 for the purpose of studying the soils in the major crop-producing areas oí the country. A Spanish translation of his preliminary report covering a portian of the soils studied is presented here.
Thirly-one soils are described, all located in central Chile, of which 29 belong to different series, one is a soil type of one of the series, and another a phase of one of the types. Seventeen of the 29 series also are found in California and have already been described there. All of the soils examined were rated according to the Storie Index.
The translator includes a brief description of the soil survey methods and the soil classification system followed by the University of California.
