During the years 1940, 1941 and 1942, ferfilizers trials on wheat have been conducted by the "Departamento de Genética y Fitotecnia" at several of its Experiments Stations located from Ovalle to Osorno. Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potasium and Lime were tested, alone and in all the combinations. The use of fertilizers in the region situated south of Santiago gave, in general, increase of the yields. The highest effect was obtained with the Phosphorous and Nitrogenous fertilizers. The influence of Potash and Lime was not very noticeable (Lime was applied at rather low rates). In general terros, there was relation between the chemical composition of soils and the eifect of fertilizers.
