Swine, ranging in weight from 20 to 105 Kg., were confined to ar·eas of 3 different sizes during Spring and Summer, at the Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias, Estación Experimental La Platina, Santiago, Chile. The effect of confinement area on daily gain, food consumption, food conversion and carcass characteristics, was determined. The confinement area did not have a significant effect on any of the items studied. Barrows had thicker backfat than gilts (< 0,05). Average environmental conditions during the trial were: 18° C temperature and 38 per cent rdative humidity. |
