The change in phosphorous fixation at various pH levels (4,5-9,5) in two volcanic ash soils of Chile, which differ in their Al content extracted at pH 4,8, was observed.
The amount of P fixed by soils in each pH level is directly related to the extractable Al of the soil.
The fixation is highly reduced over pH 7,0.
A possible mechanism for the phenomena is discussed.
