A disease known as "rice sheath aggregate spot" has been recently detected in the Chilean rice producing area. We conducted hyphal and sclerotia studies upon a collection of fungi isolates obtained from rice plants showing disease symptoms at the water leve!. DNA stains with DAPI revealing the characteristic binucleated stage and positive pathogenicity tests results confirmed the presence of Rhizoctonia oryzae-sativae, the causal agent of rice aggregate sheat spot in Chile.

Keywords: rice, Rhizoctonia oryzae-sativae, sheath blight.
