Eumerus strigatus (Diptera:Syrphidae) alone and in association with Delia spp. has been detected infesting onion and garlic crops in the Metropolitan, VIII, IX and X Regions of Chile. Evaluations conducted in Temuco (IX Region) during 1993 suggest that bulb losses in Alliaceae crops due to fly larvae amount to 45% with over 85% of the damage being caused by E. strigatus larvae.

Keywords: onion pests, garlic pests, lesser bulb fly larvae.
