Rayo-INIA is a new dry bean and green shelled or "granados" cultivar of cranberry type released by the Bean Breeding Project based at Quilamapu Regional Research Centre Chillán, Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias. This cultivar is derived from a cross between the landrace Frutilla Cañete (bushy growth habit and cranberry grain type) and the cultivar Blanco Español-INIA carried out in 1984. Due to its main agronomic properties, earliness and bushy growth habit, Rayo-INIA is well adapted to late sowings, short growing season areas and the coastal dryland ofVIII and IX Regions. Rayo-INIA shows good quality as a green shelled bean and a quality similar to cultivars Araucano and Frutilla as a dry bean. It yields about 12,000 kg ha-1 as green shelled and 2.7 t ha-1 as dry bean.

Keywords: green shelled, granados, Phaseolus vulgaris L., cultivar.
