Wild chilean strawberry Fragaria chiloensis (L.) Duch. is one of the parents of the cultivated strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) and grows naturalIy in several areas of Chile. The actual breeding programs have special interest in this wild germplasm because of several remarkable characteristics, but a problem when using this sort of plants in breeding is the possibility ofcontamination ofthe new commercial cultivars with undetected virus diseases. INIA has a collection of wild strawberry from the Xth and XIth Regions of Chile, which is being characterized for future use in breeding. The objetive ofthis work was to identify the presence of important viruses in sorne ofthe wild accessions. Using ELISA test, three ilarvirus (PNRSV, PDV and TSV), three nepovirus (TBRV, TomRSV and BLMV) and TSWV and BSSV were detected in plants of Fragaria chiloensis thought the level of infection was relatively low.
