A ten year study (1984-1993) was carried out at Quilamapu Research Center of the "Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias·, to compare the adaptation of wheat varieties from different countries of South America. The trial named Southern Cone Yield Trial includes varieties from Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Results showed that germplasm from different ongm had similar grain yield, except Brazilian varieties which in general had low grain yield, as a consecuence of a greater stripe rust susceptibility. Simple correlations between grain yield and stripe rust were negative and significant (P = 0,01) through all the years.
