At Quilamapu Research Center of the "Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias" (INIA), Chillán (36°31 'S, 71 °55'W and 217 m.a.s.l), 532 winterwheat and 595 spring wheats were evaluated in order to determine the border effects on grain yield and possible differences among genotypes. Results indicated that harvesting the whole plot, grain yield is overestimated, however this situation does not invalidate the selection of genotypes based on this characteristic. The border effect was less affected by the plant height in winter than spring wheats; average border effect was 13.2% and 8.7% for winter and spring wheats, respectively.
