Feyal-INIA is a new freezing pea variety with potential to yield over 20.000 kg/ha podded peas under the conditions of Southern Chile. Even though it is a conventional foliage pea, it possesses superior standing abilitywhei1 compared with Perfected Freezer, a variety widely used in Chile, or local landrace "Francesa". Feyal-INIA is 70-75 cm tall and presents two pods on most peduncles, with 4-6 peas per podo It produces highest quality medium small sieve size peas, and it has shown good field resistance to foliar diseases (Ascochyta pisi, Colletotrichum pisi, Septoria pisi,) prevalent in autumn-planted peas. Feyal-INIAcomes from a single plant selection in a Wando x Cobrette F3 population grown at Carillanca Exp. Sta. of the Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias (INIA).
