Spring wheat 'Nobo-INIA' (Triticu.m aestivum L.) has been an important cultivar in the south central area of Chile. When it was oficially registered in the Agriculture Ministery in 1985, Nobo-INIA was moderately susceptible to leaf rust (Puccinia recondita) and resistant to stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis). However since 1990to 1993 this cultivar has shown increasing vulnerability to both rusts. Chemical control field trials have shown that severe natural infection can causeover 2,000 kg/ha of yield losses. For this reason 'Nabo-INlA' is now being replaced by a new spring variety, Domo-INIA
