Adrián Catrileo S.1 y Juan Carlos Garcia D.1

A study of the extension methodology known as GTT in Southern Chile, which comprises the period between 1982-1990 year, is analyzed. The study considered field data from 355 commercial farmers and a preliminary analysis oftheir production systems. Field work was developed based on monthly individual surveys which summarized data from 27 GTT groups, covering the main agroecosystems ofthe area. The method also estimulated the feedback from the farm to research at the experimental station. Productive parameters of livestock and agricultural activities ofthe farms are analyzed and the impact of the GTT method as an extension tool is evaluated. Through this methodology farmers increased 20% wheat production, the main crop involved. Management practices in livestock, other annual crops and grasslands, ofthe production systems and the contribution of the GTT method in improving yield are discussed.

Keywords: technology transfer, commercial farmer, extension, livestock-crop production systems.
