ABSTRACT
Mycorrhizal infection in Ericaceae in Chile

Alexis Vega M.1 y Carlos Muñoz S.2

A survey was conducted from the VII to the XI Regions of Chile to determine the mycorrhizal infection status ofhighbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum), rabbiteye blueberries (V. ashei), ornamental ericaceae plants (Rhododendron sp) and some ofthe native Chilean ericaceae (Pernettya poepiggi, Pernettya sp and Gaultheria pilliarifolía). AII species studied were infected with ericoid type mycorrhizae. Additionally. vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizae and ectomycorrhizae were also found to infect ericaceous plants with various intensities. An unidentified fungal infection, probably of symbiotic nature, was observed in both blueberries and the native Ericaceae.

Keywords: ericoid mycorrhizae, blueberries, Vaccinium.
