Quelén-INIA is an alternative wheat cultivar released by the Wheat Breeding Program at Quilamapu Research Station (IN lA, Chillán). Quelén-INIA derives from a F3 population obtained from CIMMYT in 1981. Grain yield is high as to the yield of cultivars Lancero-INIA, Lautaro-INIA and Candela-INIA. Test weight ranges between 81-84 kg/hl; grain protein and bread volume average 9,4% and 623 c.c, respectively. This new variety is recommended for irrigated soils and dryland conditions of the south central area of Chiie (Lat. 35º - 37º S).
