During four seasons (1986/87 to 1989/90) in an Andisol soil at Carillanca Research Station (INIA Temuco) seven orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L) cultivars, associated with white clover (Trifolium repens L.), were evaluated. The experiment used systems of culting and irrigation. Yield, seasonal production, botanical composition, sanitary performance and forage quality were evaluated. Results were analyzed tor each season and ovar tour seasons of the experimento There were significant differences in yield and seasonal production (P < 0.05). Orchardgrass yield of Cambria, Aberystwyth S.26, Sylvan, Sparta and Luna did not have significant differences among them (P > 0.05) over the seasons. These cultivars yielded belter (P < 0.05) than Aberystwyth S.143 and Filippa. Cambria stood out for its persistency, autumn growth and digestibility in summer and fal!. Aberystwyth S.26 was also noted for its summer and fall growth and for the lower incidence of rust (Puccinia striiformis Wesl. f. sp. dactylidis Manners).
