During 1990/91 season a disease was detected on faba bean fields in the central region of Chile, South America. The diseased plants showed stunting, yellowing and necrotic soft rol of the stems. Pseudomonas marginalis pv. marginalis was identified as the causal organism of the symptomatology affecting faba bean plants on the field, being this one the first determination of this bacteria in this plant in Chile. The determination was based upon pathogenicity tests and olher culture characteristies of the bacteria. The bacterial culturewas also pathogenic in beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and chickpeas (Cicer arietinum L).
