In asparagus crops in the V, VI and Metropolitan Regions of Chile, progressive yellowing of fernstalks, wilting of plants, crown and root rots and vascular discoloration were detected during 1986 and 1987. According to the symptomatology, to cultural and morphological characteristics of the isolated fungus and the results of the pathogenicity test, it was concluded that the causal agent correspond to Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht f. sp asparagi Cohen. This is the first description of this fungus attacking asparagus in Chile.
