ABSTRACT
Effeets of PAV, MAV and RPV isolates of barley yellow dwañ virus on yield and growth plant of barley cultivars

A group of 10 winter barley cultivars was tested against PAV, MAV and RPV isolates of barley yellow dwarf virus. Two cultivars were used as control Vixen containing the resistant gene Yd2 and Igri withoutthe gene. Ofthe ten advanced lines tested only one had the same pattern of infection against the BYDV-isolates as Vixen. Three of the cultivars showed resistance against RPV infection, but only one cultivar showed resistance to all three isolates. There is evidence that sources of resistance different from Yd2 gene are present. The advantages of using a range of BYDV isolates in plant breeding programmes seeking resistance for BYDV are emphatized.
