The effect of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization on yield and growth rate of cv. Mercado de Copenhague cabbage (Brassica oleraceae L. varo Capitata) plants transplanted on a Vilcún soil was investigated. A randomized complete block design with a factorial arrangement and five replications was used. Nitrogen fertilization had no significant effect on fresh and dry weight production and crop growth rateo Nevertheless, phosphorus had a significant effect on both. Transplanted cabbage heads that received no phosphorus, beared a lower percentage of leaves and a larger percentage of "bolting" than those that received phosphorus.
